Love Has No Borders Celebration Dinner

Nearly 120 ONSM members and friends joined us at our Love Has No Borders Celebration Dinner on March 11, 2010 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Portland.  Due to the generous support of our members and friends and a matching grant through the Unitarian Universalist Fund for a Just Society, we were able to raise $5000 to continue our work for immigrant rights!

Many thanks to all of the ONSM volunteers and Board members who helped to make the evening a success.  A special thanks goes out to Rev. Dan Dale and 78B for generously sharing their time and talents with us and to St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church for being our gracious host.  A huge thanks goes to Vecinos en Alerta or Neighbors in Alert for the table decorations and to VOZ Worker’s Rights Center for the hand painted chairs used in our silent auction.  To our friends who catered the dinner - thank you for the delicious meal!

dan-photo.jpgA leader of the “old” and “new” sanctuary movements from Chicago will be our guest speaker at the Love Has No Borders Celebration Dinner.  Rev. Dan Dale is the pastor of Wellington Avenue United Church of Christ, the first congregation to declare itself a sanctuary outside of Tucson, AZ during the 1980’s.  Rev. Dale was a leader in the sanctuary movement during the 1980’s in Chicago and was instrumental in providing sanctuary to a family from Guatemala while a member at University United Church of Christ.  His family lived in El Salvador during the civil war as mission workers for the Disciples of Christ.  Rev. Dale’s current church has given sanctuary to Colombian human rights defenders and is involved in the Chicago New Sanctuary Coalition, which is staffed by his daughter Jenny.  Rev. Dale has been an active leader in movements for peace, justice, and civil rights for 30 years.
